About Nova Independent School
Nova Independent School is a small learning community in west Ottawa focused on curiosity, creativity, and meaningful connection. We offer a thoughtful environment where children ages 5–12 are encouraged to think independently, collaborate with others, and engage deeply with hands-on learning experiences.
In addition to full time enrollment, Nova also welcomes part-time learners and homeschooling families who join our community one to three days a week to complement their home programs.
Our Approach
At Nova, we nurture curious, confident thinkers. Our approach emphasizes critical thinking, independent thought, and the freedom to explore ideas from multiple perspectives. We teach children how to think, not what to think—encouraging open inquiry, thoughtful dialogue, and genuine engagement with the world around them.
We combine focused academic learning with movement, outdoor exploration, creativity, and hands-on experiences, ensuring children engage both mind and body throughout the day. This balanced, thoughtful environment supports intellectual growth, emotional wellbeing, and a lifelong love of learning.
Shaping Our Direction
We are currently refining our mission, vision, and values in collaboration with families and educators. Our goal is to ensure these statements reflect the community we have built together while providing a clear sense of direction for the years ahead.
